SAFE WA's Work With Government Agencies

The most effective way to work with government agencies is by simply partnering with them to do a variety of work and projects.

SAFE WA establishes these partnerships on a variety of levels:

Community level: SAFE WA has partnered with start up groups to bring, or improve, services to an area where they are needed. We have been working to establish a parent organization in the SW corner of the state, near Vancouver. While at the same time we have partnered with a parents group in Yakima county to help facilitate a wraparound program that was needed, but didn't exist.

Both programs are off to a successful start, and are growing as you read this...

Regional level: Washington state services are provided through Regional Support Networks. As an example, King county has their own RSN. But they also have a large population, since Seattle is the largest city in King county. While on the other hand, where I live, the RSN covers 5 counties. The North Sound area is 90-120 minutes north of Seattle, and is a more rural setting. Smaller towns dot the area, as do farms and lumber mills. So SAFE WA works to promote services based on a regional level, by partnering on projects with the RSNs and regional organizations.

State level: By being the hub for many local and regional organizations, SAFE WA is able to work for improvement on a statewide level. This can include speaking to legislators and committees to work for positive changes in the law, access to care, and funding issues. There are also white paper projects, data collection, and our annual retreats for establishing Community Connectors, and the CLIP (Children's Long term Inpatient Program) retreat for the parents of children who are currently enrolled in the inpatient program.

This is how SAFE WA works with government agencies, to improve services and supports for children, youth and their families.
