What Is SAFE WA?
What Is SAFE WA? Is another frequently asked question... SAFE WA is a statewide non-profit organization that consists of a network of member organizations of individual parent or youth organizations across the state. The main focus is to support parents/caregivers of children who experience emotional/behavioral challenges, who may or may not be receiving children's mental health services.
That is the answer to, what is SAFE WA?
SAFE WA has established a Charter, and adopted Bylaws, which establishes the mission, the vision, and the goals of the organization. The Executive Director Patty King is responsible for the day to day activities of SAFE WA. Patty serves on numerous workgroups and committees, that work to improve services and programs for special needs children and their parents. SAFE WA has monthly meetings for all network members, who represent a number of parent and youth driven organizations across the state of Washington. By meeting regularly, network members can effectively represent the parents and youth they represent and serve. These meetings allow the exchange of information from all areas of the state. Members are constantly being updated as to what member group is doing workshops, presentations, attending conferences, and partnering with each other to make the limited non-profit budgets serve as many people as possible. This constant collaboration helps all members stay in touch, and up to date on funding opportunities as they become available. SAFE WA is the "glue" that keeps folks in Spokane in touch with Seattle, or King County in touch with Whatcom, or Yakima County. This also allows all of the member voices to be heard at the state legislature level, so we can work for positive change in policies and programs. Network members can encourage their families to become more involved by informing them of pending or upcoming legislation that may be of interest to them.
