Youth Mentors Provide Support to Incoming StudentsMembers of Spokane's Youth 'N Action and Student 2 Student group (the in-school branch of Youth 'N Action) will launch a student mentorship program this semester to provide support to at-risk youth that are either starting school as freshman or are transferring in. "Many youth that have life harder than others- youth that have a mental illness or a disability- really struggle in school and hate it," said Student 2 Student member Ryan. "As juniors and seniors we know how things work and can help them learn the ropes and even just listen." Students wishing to participate in the mentorship program will be matched with a Student 2 Student or Youth 'N Action member who's gone through training and who can provide them with a tour of the school and answer any questions they might have. The program was the brainchild of Student 2 Student youth members. |
